With less than $50,000 spent in Haiti in 2013, we have accomplished the following:
Our Haiti team has been hired and is up and running.
We have found and prepared a candle workshop that will serve as a production and training space.Regine, our interim Country Representative, and DeeDee, our Operations Manager, are managing our field operations with grace, passion and intelligence. They are both extraordinary role models for the women we are working with.
We have found and prepared a candle workshop that will serve as a production and training space.
We will be able to offer ongoing training programs for bee-keepers, artisans, candle-makers and women from our network of women’s groups in business management, entrepreneurship, and women’s rights.
We have established a strong partnership with AFASDA.
AFASDA is a women’s association in Haiti that is devoted to supporting women survivors of gender-based violence. This partnership allows us to support women in their network to build skills and move towards economic independence.
We successfully offered work readiness training to 40+ women.
As a result we have been able to provide survivors of gender-based violence with new awareness about the formal economy and enabling them to gain confidence in seeking and maintaining jobs. Some of the participants in the training were from the Women of Milot project – a women’s sewing project also operating in the Cap Haitien area.
We conducted candle-making training led by Ted Barber (from Prosperity Candle) to 13 women.
These women learned how to make high quality, export-ready candles and began understanding how to ensure high quality candle production and how to develop candles for local markets.

We are poised to impact the lives of hundreds of women and children throughout Haiti.
This is only the beginning. We are setting the stage!
We would like to take this opportunity to thank our generous donors who have made this possible!
